GovGuam wants to keep you informed on the ongoing activities associated with Department of Defense initiatives in the Region. The Office of the Governor's Special Assistant for the Military Buildup will periodically provide Fact Sheets and Executive Summaries on various Environmental Impact Studies being conducted throughout the region and those specifically affecting Guam.

The development of a Zero Waste Plan for Guam is one of the steps the Government of Guam (GovGuam) is taking toward ensuring a more sustainable future and improving our solid waste management practices. Solid waste management on the Island of Guahan is in transition, with a multitude of challenges to contend with. While there has long been an interest in creating sustainable alternatives which will decrease solid waste disposal, this issue is of critical importance to the people of Guahan with the potential relocation of Department of Defense military personnel to the island from Japan and the limited amount of space available for disposal of solid wastes on land.

A Draft HSS Strategic Plan was published in October 2011. The draft was released for public comments (comment period ended on December 9, 2011) and an HSS fair was held to publicize the document and request comments. The Office of the Governor would like to thank all those that provided comments on this important document.
Based on public input, a final HSS Strategic Plan and Resource document have been published.
